At the intersection on Main street and Central Ave., the locals had a farmer's market in the parking lot by the old jailhouse. These gas lanterns are still operating with actual gas power during the day. I know this because I walked up to this one and was shocked at feeling the amount heat it was put off. I wondered why in the middle of the day. The locals all shrugged their shoulders at my amazement as well. Perhaps its part of the tourist attraction strategy. Why else would people visit Jamestown, Tennessee, to see the court house across the street from the Johnson building. Or attend the Rte.127 flea market event held annually about a mile from the town square. Either way, the old bank in the background which is now the Mark Twain Inn, will be there for travelers to rest well.
